Chewing gum on my carpet. Ahhhhh...

"I know mumsnetters will be able to help me" I said to dh.
It looks like someone has brought chewing gum in on their shoe. It came unstuck on the carpet infront of my sofa - ahhhh.
I have got most of it off with a knife but there is still a sticky, minty residue left. Can anyone help me try and get the rest off?

Oh God Mrs D- At school they use a special chemical to get it off kids clothes- hmb may know. Or we stick clothes in the freezer- have you thought of putting ice in a plastic bag and leaving it on it to harden it up?

Definately use the ice - pack of peas or something then yo can just pick it off!

Thank you very much ladies. I hope I made it worse by using the knife. Surely it would have been easier to freeze a big chunk and not the sticky little bit left?

A tip for getting Chewing gum out of hair is to use Peanut butter however it stains carpets and fabrics.
