mil has had a rough couple of weeks, dh is going down (they live 300m away) for a funeral this weekend. Thought it would be nice to send some things from ds and dd. Am going to do a handprints poem from dd(2), thought ds(6) could write out a poem (grandparent related) and do a picture but all I've been able to find on the net is very schmaltzy American stuff which isn't really what I wanted.

Any ideas? Can't be too long or ds will never manage it!

can;t you compile something together. i did one for my nan and framed it - its sounds naff to anyone else but its so pertinant and personal.

NAN

When I was twelve years old,
I went to my Nans for tea.
Nan is very lovely,
Here?s what she said to me:

?I?m making tater ash,
With beetroot? (it?s a must).
?Especially for you,
I?ll make it with a crust!?

When I was thirty something
I travelled up to see,
My lovely Nan in Oldham.
Here?s what she said to me:

?Sit and have a coffee
With a fag? ( well it?s a must!)
?A slice of lemon cake for you.?
In Nan I always trust!

Nan is very special,
In every single way.
I love her much and muchly,
So here?s what I have to say

?I love you Nan?

she loved it.

obviously you can't use that one - but i hope it gives a flavour of what i meant.
