Coach services - how baby-friendly are they?/what are the rules for taking a baby with you?

I am travelling to Oxford this week and wanted to use the coach service. Does anyone know whether I can just carry my baby (9 weeks old) in a sling, or do I have to bring a car seat? How child-friendly are coaches? It looks like I may be travelling a lot over the next year.

National Express won't let you use a car seat as they only have lap belts
