pilates / synergy vs aerobics - which will help me tone / lose weight?

Braved a synergy class (pilates / yoga type thing) at the leisure centre this morning, and did all the stretches - actually found some stomach muscles as well which was a bonus , but will it help me lose weight / tone up as well as an aerobics type class would?

Yes, I started pilates about 4.5 mths ago, I do an hr a wk and I am much better toned.

how soon did you notice the difference acer?

I've been doing pilates for about 2-3 months now. Judging by the amount of muscle ache I get and where I get it, I think I would say 'pilates reaches those muscles that other exercises fail to'

I do it at a proper pilates studio - each session lasts 1.5 hours and I do one a week.

I've even got the first set of a six pack (or actually what can be an 8 pack according to the pilates lady)!

within 6 weeks, its harder than what you think aswell, the next day my muscles ache, but I really enjoy it. My belly is like an unmade bed but it is improving!

look forward to tomorrow then!
I joined the gym 4 weeks ago and have been 2 / 3 times a week - but no visible effects yet - hope they start to show soon as I could get really demotivated.
Liked the synergy class - felt a bit weird at first doing exercise in candlelight, but got into it.

I tried the gym for almost a year, made no difference!

nnooooo - don't say that acer - give me some hope please!

in my opinion I could be as toned as ever but if it is under a layer of fat then no-one will ever see it so I'm sticking to the fat burning stuff at the mo with a few toning exercises for maintenance purposes.

thanks chuffed - I will keep on with the gym stuff, as I do quite a lot of CV work, but I don't think I could do aerobics - just not very co-ordinated. I think I'll try this synergy thing again, and may think about (how non-commital is that!) an aerobic class at one point just to see...

I can't co-ordinate for aerobics which is why I do spinning. This is good fat burning but doesn't take much co-ordination as it is on a bike.
