So worried about my daughter’s bleeding

She’s 22 and has 2 children of her own.
She had her last baby 8 months ago and she is bleeding constantly. At first, we thought it was post-partum(?) but it’s seems to have got worse & heavier in the last 3 months. She’s waiting to have tests etc. but I’m worrying myself sick. She had the copper coil fitted just after the baby was born but I don’t think even that should cause so much bleeding. Has anyone got any advice or personal experience please?

Anyone?x

TinklyLittleLaugh · 11/06/2020 18:52

Has she been referred to see a specialist OP? Women’s health issues always seem to be bottom of the pile for the NHS: Perhaps she would be better going private?

We never stop worrying about them do we?

Su52 · 11/06/2020 22:48

Never!! I'm so worried! She has spoken to someone today and hopefully a doctor is going to ring her tomorrow...just feel so helpless

countchocula · 11/06/2020 22:51

I had a copper coil fitted after pregnancy and honestly it really does cause that much bleeding.

I soaked through a tampon, pads, pants and my jeans (at an airport too, so embarrassing). I tried to see if it would settle but swapped it for the mirina after 6 months as it was messing with my iron levels and making me feel really down.

Do follow it up and check it out, but I wanted to give you my experience to hopefully put your mind at rest a bit.

EBearhug · 11/06/2020 22:52

She should probably be checked for anaemia, too.

Good luck tomorrow.

I'd have bleeding on and off for 2-3 weeks of a 4 week cycle. It was relentless.

They offered hormonal stuff to stop the bleeding as an alternative to removing it but I opted not to do that and just have it out.

Patienceisvirtuous · 11/06/2020 22:54

My colleague had awful bleeding problems with the coil OP x

peachgreen · 11/06/2020 22:55

Copper coil was horrendous for me. Heavy bleeding 2 weeks out of 4 and spotting for most of the rest of the time. I hated it.

welliwasntexpectingthat · 11/06/2020 22:57

I persisted with the coil but it made me bleed so much. I gave it 6 months and then had a HUGE bleed so had it removed and indeed it was that!

Cheerybigbottom · 11/06/2020 23:04

I was the same after childbirth and became anaemic, I had the contraceptive implant and used contraceptive pills and progesterone. I kept on bleeding. I was fitted with the Mirena coil and kept on bleeding for another 6 weeks or so.

Now I'm onto my second Mirena coil and get perhaps half a day's bleeding per month.

Sometimes it just happens after birth and hopefully it will settle in time or she might have the copper coil exchanged for Mirena? It's known to help with persistent heavy bleeding.

loutypips · 11/06/2020 23:07

Copper coil is supposed to be bad for bleeding, but bleeding constantly for that amount of time needs to be looked into ASAP!

Su52 · 12/06/2020 10:33

Oh Thankyou all for sharing your experiences! When you read up on the copper coil, you get the impression that it doesn't cause so much bleeding but,now I've read all your responses, I'm thinking otherwise! Obviously, we don't know if the coil is doing it-she's had it in for 8 months-but, hopefully, it's just that and not something more serious! I'll keep you all updated. Really appreciate everyone's input x

EBearhug · 12/06/2020 10:53

Even if it is the cause, constant bleeding isn't a good thing, because it can lead to anaemia, fatigue and so on.

Su52 · 12/06/2020 12:47

Yes..I mentioned this to her because she does get a bit light-headed sometimes. Also, headaches...Thankyou x

Su52 · 15/06/2020 12:06

We're still waiting for her to be seen🙄
She's been given one for next Friday morning but it does clash with something else so she's trying to get a different time-although I think she should go with it if it's all she can get. Anyway, apparently, the bleeding had almost stopped since Saturday so she's emailed the Dr. back to ask if she could possibly have an earlier slot "whilst the bleeding has stopped". But, she's just discovered she's started again...! There is no pain with this either..does that seem unusual? She has just rang to tell me that they can't see her any earlier..🙄x

Update: she went to the Doctors' yesterday.
She took it out & told my daughter to go on the pill for now.
Said she's going to send her for an ultrasound sound scan and blood-tests.
Did examine her aswell. Daughter is bleeding again. Just hoping that everything's ok. Fingers crossed.

EBearhug · 21/06/2020 10:05

Fingers crossed for her.

Su52 · 21/06/2020 12:33

Thankyou x

Well after starting "Logynon" pill, straight after having her coil removed, the bleeding completely stopped. She was sent Canesten as,after having it removed, the coil had shown signs of infection so it was sent off to the lab. She finished a course of antibiotics last week as she went totally deaf(still is!) in one ear as soon as she went on the pill and yesterday she discovered a green-coloured discharge down-below and felt itchy again! Today, even though she's meant to over-ride her period with the pill for 3 months so that her body "can rest", she started feeling like her period was coming and then started bleeding! Does anyone have any advice?? She spoke -literally-to 5 people on the phone today in out- of-hours etc. only to be told that they can't do anything for her today!
