My darling lill' niece is going up to Manchester today ....

.... and it only feels like yesterday when I got back from holiday and my Mum, sister and her met me at the airport and she toddled towards me to greet me

I know starting university is an exciting thing, but I'm so worried for her and Manchester is so flippin' far away .....

must be hard for you earlgrey, but Manchester is a great place to be student - also a good place for aunties to spend a weekend!

I've been back into Manchester centre a few times in the last couple of weeks. IT is so cool and vibrant, yet v. little of the hassles associated with London.

It gets a reputaion, but if she takes all of the safety steps she would do in any city she will have a groovy time.

ha ha Pan, know exactly what you mean! I was a student here in the early 80s, "grown up" now but still get same feeling when I'm back in the centre/near the uni!

It is, - parents have just got back and it's as grotty as she expected.

Nothing like hardening them off. Not. Still, maybe tomorrow she'll find some new friends.
