Anyone know about getting Ron Arad furniture valued?

I know this is a long shot, but I've just realised that our old bed is a bit of a design classic. It was designed by Ron Arad when he was part of the One-Off group, back in the late 80s. Or so I was told when I bought it. Anyone recommend how I can get it valued, for insurance purposes (although would be happy to sell if price was right).

Don't know but since Ron Arad is still working, couldn't you just ask one of the stores that sells his stuff? Or search on ebay?

Specialist furniture dealer ?

Call one of the salerooms, Sothebys or Christies - they have experts in all sorts of periods of furniture and will be able to help you

Arabica · 07/10/2004 23:39

Thanks for all your replies. I know about Sothebys and Christies but, having done a brief search of their website, wasn't sure if they would be interested in this period of his work. Also worried they might laugh at me! There aren't any Arads from his One-Off period on e-bay or any specialist furniture dealers who seem to be offering this stuff, save for some chairs he made out of car seats. Nor do there seem to be any collectors out there looking for it.

Why not offer it on ebay with a reserve which is equal to your "price is right" amount. If it doesn't sell, you're only out of pocket a minimal amount for ebay fees, but you never know - you might get loads of interest .... it would at least tell you whether there's general interest in his work.

There is a shop on Tottenham Court Road (London) which sells the Arad bookshelves ? Purves and Purves ? not sure if they sell other Arad products.

Arabica · 08/10/2004 19:08

Thanks edam, I have pressed my face against Purves & Purves' window in the past--they sell absolutely gorgeous stuff!
