Anybody else getting these? Or know how I can stop them? TIA!

I don't get any but I'm running Norton Internet Security which stops pop ups.

soupy, you are such a techy person, they should make you tech3!

We have Norton Anti Virus and Personal Firewall - is that the same? AOL has a pop-up blocker and that's on. These have only started recently and AFAIK nothing has changed but when the kids are on, who knows...

Anyway these are the only ones, it's not a huge problem but they always come up in front of the hotmail inbox so I have to get rid before I can read.

It's not the same - I think Internet Security comes with a specific pop up stopper (maybe the Anti Spam program? No idea) Having viewed the logs it creates, it does seem to have stopped an awful lot linked to MSN in some way.

I wonder if MSN operates outside of the AOL controls or if the control setings have been tweaked accidentally or something.

I'm not really techy at all. I have a very good memory for vague bits of information about losts of things but this doesn't mean I actually know whatI'm talking about!

Norton Personal Firewall has an ad blocker - it blocks ads and popup windows. (Out of interest I've just unset the ad blocker to see if I can tell what has previously been blocked.)

These popups I'm getting, although they are on the back of hotmail, have Tiscali 10.0 at the end of the title in the blue box; is Tiscali part of MSN?

I don't know about Tiscali. There were a lot of Hotmail things blocked too in the log on my PC. As you can see - I'm really not that techy at all

I've recently noticed that Internet Explorer is also blocking a lot of pop ups or banners now - I'm guessing this came through with one of the updates I've installed recently.

aha - I just went to Internet Explorer and it came up "welcome to msn.co.uk - Tiscali 10.0" - the plot thickens.

Ol' gatesey really is taking over the world

Have you run something like SpyBot? Maybe it's a sneaky spyware thing.

JanH · 06/10/2004 17:58

I have an aol spyware thing and I'm running it now...wish I could stop feeling guilty, doing things like this when DH isn't here, I always think I'm going to do something horrendously wrong by accident!

Thank you for your support, soupy!

It has found 25 items so far!!!! !!! Should I run it every day?

Probably - I don't always do it though. A lot of them are just cookies that track your internet habits and aren't malicious as such.

JanH · 06/10/2004 18:13

Oh, phew, if that's all they are! It's still running, 45000 files scanned now but still just the 25 "items" it had already found.
