DH is absolutely kicking himself for not putting a bet on as he has backed the Pumas to win that one all along!
Thing is Argentina are 6th in the World rankings while France are 4th (England are 7th!) but no one gave them a chance

harleyd · 07/09/2007 22:21

twas a great one start with.
assuming you are english?

dh is deperate to put a bet on but can't decide who!
Yes we're English - last time we put a tenner on England in the February before at 4-1. People laughed but we got fifty quid and had a fab dinner out
Can't wait for the rest of it - tho this weekend is mostly fore-gone conclusions
BTW - did you know that ESPN Classic is showing old RWC matches most nights?

I predicted it here at home, everyone I knew was bigging up France. I always said nuh uh
As a kiwi and all conqueror I have to concede that NZ at the optimum peak should not be able to put 50 points on a good top 5 international side...
But they whipped France's ass in June, by 50 points...
Cracking match tonight, France were fallible and lacked aplomb finish and technical merit
The Argentines fought and lucked in
Deserved every point.
Also bonus
Great news for Ireland!!!!!!!!!!
(my 2nd team as dp Irish)

tigerschick · 07/09/2007 22:50

No game is really a fore-gone conclusion but there are several pretty obviously one-sided ones e.g. Australia v Japan etc.
The thing that annoys me is that the pools are decided on the basis of the last WC positions That is why NZ have a comparatively 'easy' group - coz they finished 4th last time. England finished 1st so get RSA and Samoa, oh joy! Ireland are surely in the hardest group tho with France and Argentina.
Gonna be a good few weeks

harleyd · 07/09/2007 22:58

ireland are in a hard enough group - it will make it taste so much sweeter
dh drew the straw to get out to watch it tonight - we will stay in and watch it together tomorrow - i got the best straw in the world to go out and watch sundays!

76-14 Oh dear. I thought that Italy did really well, something that isn't reflected in the score line at all. But, let's face it, NZ are just so good.

Piffle · 08/09/2007 18:07

I don't need to face it, I've bene shouting that all my life LOL
Itlay did v well early 2nd half...
England making a hard job of it against USA and that bloody Vickery is a nasty bastard.

harleyd · 08/09/2007 21:03

not too many surprises today
england got a bit of a rattling though
looking forward to tomorrow
