car seat is it still safe to use

a bit of plastic has broken off the catch bit on the front where the two shoulder straps come together and clip into. friend says i can just selotape it cos its only cosmetic and won't alter the safety of the product. what do you think?

well not sure if id risk it...

BUT whith these catches the strength of the 'catching' is in the metal that is in the plastic in the cath IUSWIM, so aslong as it is 'catching' and the metal is fine then it would probably be ok i GUESS

I think the plastic stops it getting too hot in the sunshine as well, where as bare metal can be boiling hot if the car has been parked on a summers day
