Hi everyone. We are on UC lasts few months because my husband salary wasn't enough to cover all cost and I'm not able to work right now. We are looking to find house for renting but so many ad that I found says landlord does not accept house benefits tenants. Also I have a friend who is also on UC and she found very difficult flat to rent, she went to see more that 20 flats and when they see you that you are getting UC they said no. Is it hard to find a house for renting if you are on UC?

As far as I know you don't have to tell them you're on UC, OP.

It's very difficult to rent if you're getting Housing Benefit, so i would anticipate that extends to amy housing element under UC.

If one of you is still working I’d just say “x works at Y and our income is XYincluding the UC total. I wouldn’t go out of my way to tell them I’m on UC.
A lot of the time they don’t care as long as someone’s working, it’s unfortunately more of a “no unemployed” rule vs “no benefits” not that they can say that directly... this is just my experience though. I got around the no DSS thing by doing the above, I just didn’t mention it and stated my income incl benefits and where I worked.

It is but a recent change in the law affected this. Give shelter a ring they will be able to help.
