Anyone broken (and fixed) the retractable cover thing that sits across the boot in an Audi estate?

If so, please tell me how to do it.

I pulled mine out (in an A6, but I'm sure they're all much of a muchness) and it wouldn't stop coming, and is now too long and won't spring back into the casing. Dh tells me I pulled it too violently.

I cannot face going to the local Audi dealer with yet another problem, and feel sure this is something that I ought to be able to fix myself...but how?

not an Audi, but the same thing happened to me with My Volvo one. Couldn't be repaired, had to replace the whole unit. Luckily car was still under warranty. Am convinced it was coused by dh using the blardy thing as a parcel shelp and putting Heavy Stuff on there. . Never mind that if I brake suddenly, or am hit from behind the Heavy Stuff will fly forwards and hit him and dd in the back of the head!

Think I'll just live without it if it cannot be repaired. This car eats money at the moment, and the warranty expired 6 months ago (although the 1001 things that went wrong were never covered by it any way ).

Have never put heavy stuff, or stuff of any sort on mine.

maybe I'm being unfair to dh, but at least he stopped with the Heavy Stuff, which was dangerous, anyway!
