Is there a way of finding out somebody's surname without ringing and asking?

Someone left a messgae on our answerphone asking for some info to be posted to them. After I had deleted the message I realised I had only written their first name down.

I have the address, postcode and phone number.

Electoral register?

Ring them and say I am just addressing the envelope, what did you say your name was ??

If they say Jane you say Oh yes I remember that Jane, it is your surname that is eluding me at the minute.

Just put the first name on the envelope, unless it will make you look like a wally.

My dc often just address envelopes to "My Granny" etc and put her address.

Failing which, you maybe able to find the surname on 192.com, as you have the postcode.

Yes, usually on 411 or similar sites there is a "reverse lookup" where you search by phone number (but it will only work if they're listed in the phone directory of course!)
