My Dad has an allotment, he has some of it covered over as it is too big

we could have a bit of it if we wanted?

I love the idea of it, more for the children, they would enjoy it

But..........How easy can it be??? I dont want to have to go to it all the time (appreciate it would need watering if we ever get nice weather lol)

Could we grow a few things (simple things ) and just visit it once a week?

any advice would be great

Hi,

My dad also has an allotment and he looks after it about once a week, and grows tons of veg. It's not as neat as neighbouring plots & he uses some woven black plastic sheets to plant through with some crops to keep weeds under control. The kids love going to it with him & harvesting.

I have a veg patch in our garden and never feel in control , but we get some nice veg (what's left after the slugs) - it's worth it. dss have their own little patches too, which ds1 (6) virtually ignores except for the odd potato, and ds2 (4) is quite proud of and weeds / admires regularly.

Worth a try...
