I've just received an email from somone who wants info and a photo for a ST magazine article (there's a "like a native" section apparently).

Before I go to any effort, and especially before I send a photo, I'd just like to see if it's real: the email address isn't an ST one.

The phone number given begins 0207 4139 - it isn't the prefix for the numbers given on the website, but then I can only find numbers for advertising on the website. Does anyone know?

I have one contact there and his number doesn't start that way, not sure if they'd all start the same, but then if it's not a ST email address then it's possibly a freelancer. I'd just try to get some more details - ask whoever it is if they've had anything published in their name that's up on the ST website perhaps?

How exciting - wish someone wanted to write about me! Thanks for your holiday tips by the way Senora, we had a great time!

One of my old school friends works for them. He has a regular column but still works from home, so I wouldn't have thought it was all that surprising if the contact details are different. It's a central London code but I guess you know that . Never seen a "Like a Native" section though.

Probably a freelancer. Most writers are. Why not talk to them directly about it. I would always be perfectly happy to direct them to my commissioning editor if they were concerned.
