New gas fire in council house

Does anyone know how I'd go about getting a new (private) gas fire installed into my living room considering its a council house?

The old council fire is already off the wall so that's not a problem, I've seen a fire suite that I want in B&Q so is it just a case of buying that and then getting someone to come and fit it?

What would they do about their annual gas safety check where they take the fire off the wall etc? TBH this fire won't ever be used anyway, It's just for decoration to get rid of the old ugly council fire...

I've never had a council house, but have had a Ha house. If I'd wanted to do this there I'd have had to talk to them first.
I expect that's what you'll need to do, ring your local housing office and ask them?

I would imagine that you would need permission to install your own fire but as long as it was done and commissioned by a CORGI registered gas engineer I can't see why there would be any objection.

The normal person would do the annual safety check as usual. We do lots for HA houses and letting agencies and we havn't actually fitted the fire. You do need to keep the installation manual though.
