how long have you been waiting on the exchange list?

charliecat · 07/08/2007 23:42

Well youve left my house today, and someone got stabbed in the woods up the road not long back.
It maybe should, but doesnt stop me walking through there with my MP3 player on on my own.
You cant live like that harman

expatinscotland · 07/08/2007 23:42

I did, and it depressed me so badly I almost lost hope entirely.

I know where you're coming from.

I've lived in shitholes all over the world and that was the worst.

It scarred me for life and if I had the choice between that or going back to live with my parents I'd do the latter in a flash.

We lived in a flat in an inner city on a corner of two cul de sac's, limited access to a through road. Every day I was grateful that we lived upstairs. We used to have the local druggies kicking in the front (shared) door and sitting on the concrete stairwell. I had to phone the police a few times because they had passed out and were stopping us from getting out,but they would not come out the day I needed to go to hospital for a scan on so had to, while heavily ppregnant climb over their bodies to get to the street.

forsale · 08/08/2007 00:04

harman - do you work? is there anything actually keeping you to the specific area? can you afford to rent elsewhere?

Theresad · 08/08/2007 00:09

Oh and the time one of the neighbours was waving a gun around outside and shouting a lot, so I called the police, as you do, and carried on watching from the bedroom window.
The police turned up and got out of the car to deal with him and from where I was standing four floors up and across the road I could hear the police radio giving my address and that I had reported it. Scared was I that night.

Harman, I also live in/near what some people would call a rough area.

We have had problems with needles, prostitutes, and masses of 'petty' crime which is almost worse because it is relentless.

I find it goes in waves - but I feel for you and everyone else. It's horrible having to shield your children from what's really going on (I can atm because mine are very young)

Hey harman, don't feel bad about it. You made the best decision you could at the time. You'll find a way even if takes a while.

You can get your housing benefit paid straight to you. And then you pay it to the landlord?

charliecat · 08/08/2007 10:40

However, I did read soemthing about insurance and Housing Benefit on MN a while back, no idea what that was...someone will come along in a minute and tell you.
But then you culd get turfed out every six months.
