Worried about being away from 10 month old. Have you done it?

Hello all.

I am a new dad to a 9 month old baby boy. He's very ahead in my opinion already crawling very well, starting to stand for 5-10 seconds on his own and talking to me in babbles saying dad and mum.

I love my son to bits and hes the best thing that ever happened to me I haven't been away from him for more than 2 nights before, and I actually got very emotional when I returned to work after paternity leave.

I work for a luxury tavel company and as part of my benefits I get the opportunity to get sent on amazing trips anywhere in the world, however they're random and you might not get offered one for 2+ years. I got offered one to south America last year as a few people couldn't go as it was around due date I refused as I would never of missed his birth!

I have just been offered very luckily a trip to Uruguay & Buenos Aires for 15 days leaving in about a month and a half.

Son will be 10 months by then and my partner is very supportive and wants me to go, however I feel so guilty and I am worried he wont remember me when I get back.

Has anyone else left child this age for that long? I might be being really over sensitive as I know people work in Army and Navy etc... But I feel awful.

My girlfriend and I live together in our own house with 9 month old

DS is sleeping very well at the moment (slept 13 hours the other night! and had a 2 hours nap shortly after waking)

My parents live a mile away and are very involved and able to help out 24/7 with whatever if needs be.

My partner has good family connections not to far away and it working 3 days a week and taking the baby to work with her.

We're just bumping this for you.

I would go, if your partner is supportive of you doing so. I left mine and while it was hard (for me) there were great benefits in terms of my career, and my child was absolutely fine.

DH has also been away. He also nearly missed the birth due to a work obligation that had been booked two years prior. If you don’t make a big deal of it, kids view it as normal. And there’s always Skype if you need a remote view during the trip.

Go! I went on a ski trip round about that age. My partner loved the one on one time. When I returned they were abit clingy but other than that they were fine. I won't lie I did miss them terribly at times but it was soo good to do some child free adulting

My husband is away about 1-2 weeks every month, sometimes more and sometimes less. We try and Skype as often as we can but that's sometimes as little as twice a week due to time difference and schedule clash. Both children have always remembered their dad and greet him excitedly when he comes home.

I've done it, although only for a week. Little one stayed at home at my house with my mum, and I don't think he even noticed I'd gone! If your partner is supportive carry on, he will be fine.
