Whilst on the subject of wedding etiquette... what would you do?

Dh and I were recently invited to the evening do for an old school friend's wedding. We can't go. The wedding is this Saturday. Should I still buy her a gift?

BTW for several reasons am a little miffed that we were only invited to evening do...

I would play it clever....still send a card saying sorry you couldn't make it and you hope the service was lovely (hint hint!) and stick a £10 voucher in it...that way you have been polite but not bankrupted yourself in the process etc!
