Does anyone have any advice on ants which are truly getting out of hand ?

We`ve had ants behind the skirting in the conservatory on and off for a few years. This year they have got through into the lounge.

Then last week my dds room was infested with them and it looks like they have crawled up the wall cavity from our dining room (directly beneath dds room ) and are coming out under the window sill in her bedroom.
Have tried all the usual but have now got the creeps.

Can they do any damage is my main concern ?

I mean there must be hundreds of the dam things if they`ve crawled up the wall cavity ?
Any advice would be really appreciated .
cheers x

I had great success with boiling water. I had a nest behind the skirting in my kitchen, it was gross but I repeatedly poured boiling water and vinegar down the wall so as to get into the skirting. They disappeared after a couple of days.

We got rid of ours by accident- we didn't put the lid on a pot of honey properly. They all went in, the whole lot drowned and they've never been back! (Doesn't have to be an expensive pot of honey!)
