Am stewing in narkiness after mil came round today to visit my dd. mil tends to visit 3 times week, inc weekends (when both dh and i have dropped huge hints that, as dh works 50+ hr weeks, we do like to have weekends to ourselves as this is really only time dh gets to play with dd, and mil is retired so no constraints on visiting during week). Anyway, mil came today, walked in, saw i was changing 8m old dd who is starting to wriggle around, and said 'Is your mummy being naughty, smack your mummy if she's been naughty, smack mummy' and witrtered on like this for a while. Sorry, but who the f*ck tells someone's kid to smack their own parents???? don't care that she's only 8m old, the silly old boot shouldn't be saying it at any age!!! (plus me and dh hopefully want to avoid smacking when dd grows, but i am realistic about that!) I said to dd 'No don't smak mummy, we don't smack mummy because that would be silly'. Can't talk to dh as he thinks sun shinesout of her arse and when you answer mil bvack she throws a deaffie. Grrr! Sorry! Long rant! Feel a bit better now its not on my chest!

Grr! Glad you feel better having got it off your chest. My mum has occasionally said things that I don't want her to say to my DS - the other day when he was crying because he was tired she said something along the lines of 'I hope you're not going to be a cry baby all day - are you a naughty boy?' - I told her babies just cry esp when tired, its not naughty and I don't want him thinking he's naughty because he cried. My mum apologised and I don't think she'll say it again - but I sympathise with you over your MIL - its much more difficult to say things when its not your own mum.

These rants are good. You NEED to have them regularly! My MIL says equally ridiculius and inappropriate things and I find a good rant to understanding ears really helps :-)
