We have attended the first meeting of our summer holiday club today.
This super club meets one day a week over the summer holidays, for 5-11 y.o.s. They have organised craft activities, story tellers, bouncy castles, loads to keep the kids occupied. The club was able to charge just £1 per child, so some of the less-advantaged families in the area could participate. They even subsidised a super trip to a play park last year for just £2 per head. It will be £4 this year.
Over the last couple of years Tesco and Rolls-Royce (a local employer), have both given money to the scheme, as well as our local authority grant. Non of the organisers take any pay, several even subsidise it themselves, not claiming for phone-calls, mileage to get supplies etc.
However, it seems both these companies have told us that they won't be offering funds for next year. I (and ds) so appreciate the scheme that I want to help save it for next summer.
I'm thinking of offering to canvass local companies for contributions, but wonder if any of you know of other funding options, charities who may contribute?
