Dangerous Book for Boys - girls' equivalent in The Guardian today...makes for depressing reading

OK, I've not read it so I hope there's more to it than Catherine Bennett's review but is this really how we view girls in this country and the kind of thing we want to teach them? Look good and be a bully? I'll look for the book next time I'm in Waterstones to see if it has any redeeming features but I don't think I'll be buying it for any little girls of my acquaintance any time soon.

sounds appalling and so much less fun than the boys one

Yuck. For 10-yr-olds? Really? That's appalling.

Maybe one should envy those who have not yet encountered anything more depressing than a spot.

Seriously, I agree it's utterly depressing.

Well we have to get them in training for adulthood don't we? It's just good old empowering post-feminism after all

Maybe a case where freedom in publishing should be removed. This book sounds like one that should be burned never to be repeated in sane society
