Money is very tight right now, I was planning to get something if I can scrape it together, but now I'm a bit at my 4 yr old being sent home to TELL me to get it - and if I don't now she'll sob her heart out.

Dont buy anything if money is tight (you will need all you have for the holidays) Write a nice card thanking them for all their excellent work.

Yes, get her to make them a beautiful picture with stuff stuck on etc and wrap it up in nice paper

Yup, they were joking... but a 4 yr old takes what they say very seriously.
