Family Service Meal Ideas

Looking for ideas for a birthday party. Because of logistics of location plating the food up will be an issue so looking a 'Family Service' type meal...

So far come up with...

Lasagne

Beef Wellington

Chicken Tray Bake? (Not very fancy)

The birthday party is for older relative so needs to be traditional (ish)

Help??

What does Family Service mean? Like a hot buffet?

queenqueenqueen · 20/03/2019 21:13

I suppose where a platter of food delivered to each table so that guests can enjoy a rmeal without leaving their seats, I guess it's called family service because it's like what you do for meals at home.

It's not really like a buffet in that it should be a certain meal rather than lots of different things

Are you cooking?

Try the cook book the roasting tin. One oven tin meals.

I can't really imagine how it will work. Will you put everyone a plate and a meal in the middle to serve themselves from or will you send a plated meal to each person?

I would do-

Lemon and thyme roasted chicken thighs with garlic served in a large tray. Chuck some little potatoes in at the end.

Big bowls of salad

Big bowls of crusty baguette to mop up the sauce.

Incredible simple, tasty and looks pretty too.

Or similar chicken tray bake idea but do it with
Chorizo, harissa, red onions and cherry tomatoes.

@donpablo yes everyone will serve themselves, I've been to a wedding like this and it does work really well x

Beef Wellington would be an absolute nightmare to cook en masse!

Paella could look impressive if you had enough paella pans and hob space. How many tables do you have?

Beef bourgignon
Beef stifado
Coq au vin
Chicken thighs with lemon and peas
Curry

anniehm · 21/03/2019 14:05

Paella is a doddle to make - but if shellfish is also out it wouldn't work. I would stick to lasagna, salad and bread as it works ok even if warm. If you really want to cheat buy rotisserie chickens, salad, coleslaw and bread, no cooking at all!

Would you have a different meal on each table and people sat at the table they wanted to eat?
