bought friend fabulous missoni scarf from harvey nichols for 30th. not cheap (£100) but have known each other forever. if there is one near you their accessories floor has lots of nice things that your friend would love

I think £50 is my limit as although she's a good friend we've only known each other 2 years. Jo Malone candles look lovely but can one jsut buy one candle, or do they need to be bought in pairs to make a present look good?

Oh thank you! I bought it for one of my (v rich) friends for her 40th and she was delighted but explained that it was SO perfect for her that her husband had bought it for her too! No matter, she was v pleased.

I'd go for the Jo Malone - beautifully wrapped too and arrives in scented straw !(if you mail order)
