I don't mean drunk down the pub and some bloke in spandex convinces you you're a horny penguin.

I have made an appointment for a home visit and am feeling anxious. How much control do you have? Do you have to answer questions? do you start saying stuff? I am also worried I am going to laugh (i do that when nervous or stressed) and she will think I am taking the piss.

And finally, how successful was it?

In my case it is for weight loss, general anxiety and mid-level nuttiness.

Well, I'm considering being hypnotized to give up smoking.

Most people I know who've had this treatment have been cured/or seen significant improvements. I think the trick is to assume nothing. Just do exactly what you're asked to do and try to focus very clearly on the instructions you're given.

A man came in the pub last night who'd been smoking 30 fags a day for 30 years. Last week he visited a hypnotist .. and he hasn't touched one since.

All you have to lose, twopence, is his or her fee. It's a small price to pay if it works!

Oh, but please don't ask for the mid-level nuttiness to be addressed

That's what I love about you ..

I did the hypnotism thing to stop smoking - it was very pleasant and relaxing. However, while I wasn't actually lighting up on my way out the door, it was close . I know it works really well for some people, though.

I had hypnotism years ago to lose weight. It really worked for a while and was amazing but I was supposed to listen to the tape he gave me (basically putting myself under) every day or something and I kept falling asleep and stopped doing it and went back to eating again!

It worked really well for my friend though and she lost loads of weight.

It doesn't feel like you are under and you don't say anything you don't want to but apparently I was quite deep but no idea how I got there! Strange but not scary or anything.
