I wouldn't like to pop it in the loo in case it didn't flush away. Use the sieve and pop it in a big wadge of newspaper and put that in the bin. Horrid job, but think of it this way: ds1 is learning about life. I don't mean that horribly. Children need experiences of all kinds, good and bad, to understand about life.

galaxy--- I cant leave it, we have to go out soon and other fish may die too.
lm---- your not horible, you are perfectly right. it is a good experience, he is aware of death and such and has had family members pass away and has understanding. he is just so sad

Sieve, newspaper, quick burst of "All things bright and beautiful", hole in garden, little stick cross. Done, dusted, all over...be brave.

So sorry for your ds. I must admit, I baulk at getting pets because I can't bear to think of them dying and my children being inconsolable. How old is he? You will have to think of a nice treat for him to make him feel happier. Well done for doing the deed!

doziduck · 02/09/2004 19:07

I sympathise. We got up one morning and there was ds goldfish dead as a doornail on the floor. Must have jumped out of the bowl!
Well, i don't mind fish but once they are dead..oh god NO. Don't do dead fish at all
lots of crying from ds and me nearly joining in i managed to move it.
The next fish died aswell but being a wuss, didn't want the upset again and bought lookalikey.

champs · 02/09/2004 19:22

lm-- he is 6, he is still abit sad but is playing his console(dont want to advertise) so i think he's gettin better.

dozi-- sounds like it was a very active fish!!
I was gonna do the swapping thing when i thought about them dying, unfortunetly ds was right there when i found it and i started going "Oh gosh,Oh gosh"..not too smooth.
