anyones child had teachers doing job share? or any teachers done it?..

My DD is going onto yr 2 in September, she will have two teachers (job sharing) the first will do Mon-Wed and the second Thur and Frid

Not sure that I am too pleased,

Just wondered if anyones else had experiance of this and how it turned out

When it works well it is great.
I have done job shares before.
The thursday/friday teacher arrives all full of energy for the end of the week. The child gets to experience two people and all they have to offer.
If it does not work so well, say if htere is a communication problem, then there may be conflicting messages about behaviour and expectations and a lack of continuity in the work.
Ask if the teachers have time to meet to plan and brief each other about events in the class each week.

My friend id a teacher ona a job share. Seems to work out okay.

Ds is starting reception Sept and he will have 2 teachers. One Mon and Tues and the other Wed, thurs Fri.

I am fine with it, infact quite pleased as both teachers are brilliant.

I job share and it works really well. I do Mon, Tues and Wed afternoon. Partner does Wed morning. Thurs and fri. We get one and half hours a week to plan together and we have a fantastic TA who holds it all together!
We both have different strengths, she is a music specialist, so the children get the best teaching.
I agree with spudmasher, they get a fresh teacher in the middle of the week so there is no end of week lull!

same as NuttyMuffins, in that dd starts a reception class in Sept with 2 teachers. I must admit, though, that I don't know what days the teachers do/ how the work is split. (memo to self -ask more questions)

DD had job-share teachers twice, once in Y2 & once in Y5. Both times she liked one teacher better than the other, but it did mean she didn't get the teacher she didn't like all the time. And it helps get them used to different people in the classroom, which will often happen in the future.
As spudmasher says, commuication is the key issue, but if that's good it works well. Also if one was ill, the other could often cover so the class didn't have to have an unfamiliar supply teacher.
The year 5 teachers used to have an arrangement where one of them took two weeks off in February to go ski-ing & the other took two weeks in June for a cheaper summer oliday & they covered each other

I've found that it has worked well. The children get a fresh teacher midweek, the teachers can teach to their strength and if a child is not so keen on one teacher it is not so bad as they only have them for half a week. The best job shares I've worked in are obviously when I get on bet with my partner teacher and communication is good. (You tend to spend a lot of time onthe phone to each other as well as having hand over time.

dd1 had a job share in reception, teaching was good but one teacher was stricter than the other (dd1 found she got 'special jobs ' off one if she was upset so was only upset on those days!) and they didn't seem very organised about letters etc

dd2 has had one this year (reception ,1 was the same teacher dd1 had) and it has worked well.Both teachers are in together at times and communication is fine

TBH - which would you rather have: one teacher, who by Wed is so shattered because her little ones keep her up all night and can't keep up withthe marking/planning as she is so shattered and grumpy, or 2 different teachers who are refreshed and have several days to mark/plan?

my ds1 is in year 4 and he has 2 teachers,one does mornings and the other does afternoons.they are both very different(one is strict and has been teaching for over 30 years,the other is young and friendly)but it seems to work ok,ds1 has never had any problems with it.

That is actually what I said to my friend (dd same class as hers) when she voiced her concerns

DS1 has had job sharing teachers this year, although possibly a slightly different scenario. His main teacher is a newly qualified teacher so apparently cannot work in the classroom full-time so she was supported by one of the most qualified teachers in the School. There were some initial teething problems as the new teacher is really, really nice and the older teacher is a bit more of a battle-axe . Initially this upset DS1 a bit and he started to dread a Thursday when the older teacher took over, however as the end of the year has approached he seems to have got to like the older teacher and thinks she is a good teacher even although she is a bit shouty (and it's probably as well that he likes her as she is going to be his teacher full-time next year).

Long and short of it is I think it can work quite well, different teachers have different strenghts and different ideas to bring to the classroom and even although DS1 liked one teacher better than the other it has still be a postitive experience for him.

My cousin (when 8/9yrs)had teachers who job shared, which worked quite well, as in they taught their own subjects.

I have to say they were the best teachers the class had as from day one they had subsitute teachers from yr1 to yrs 4 they had at least one different teacher per halfterm.

Although that actually moved to a different area so that my cousin could go to a better school with a good standard of teaching.

I have had three experiences of this with my children. Two have been positive - job share worked well and there were no problems. Third experience was very bad, particularly as ds was in Primary 1 and it was an unsettling way for him to start his school life.
The problem with it was that one of the teachers was 3 months pregnant when the school year started so was obviously going to go off on Maternity Leave part-way through. The second teacher was taken ill (with Multiple Scleurosis as it happened) during the summer holidays so didn't even start the school year with them. The result was that they ended up having a series of supply teachers teaching them. Fair enough, I appreciate that both teacher's situations were (possibly) unforeseen but I don't think the school managed the situation very well and maybe job sharing in the first year(s) of a school isn't such a good idea.

We have 2 shared jobs at our school (i.e. 2 teachers sharing one job, another 2 sharing a second job). Works brilliantly. Two of those teachers have job-shared for over 8 years and are a great team. Different personalities and strengths, like someone else said. Good communication and planning are key.

my dd1 had one teacher mon-thurs and the other teacher for fridays- i was worried about the lack of continuity but it worked out fine, no problems. The kids just knew Friday was Miss X day.

While I can see positives, I don't think it is the best for reception, especially when one of the teachers is only for 1 day a week.
But that's they way they organise it, and I would actively defend anyones right to work part-time, so, unless there are major problems in which case I will speak to them about those problems, I accept that they are doing it that way.

My dd who is in year 2 has 2 teachers who job share, I was a bit concerned at first but it has worked out fine and she loves both of them.
