Apparently I can't do it because I don't weigh enough. I'm distraught, obviously! . Seriously, though, well done to you and anyone else who gives blood - absolutely vital.

harleyd · 21/06/2007 15:21

i cant due to regular medication. and the fact that i have the worst veins in the world according to every doc i see. my hubby does every 3 or 4 mths though. good for you for starting it

Wallace · 21/06/2007 15:25

I would, but not allowed because I had malaria as a child

mumzarello · 21/06/2007 15:37

I'd love to but am not allowed.

Did you know you can't give blood if you have had a blood transfusion (since 1980) - talk about rejecting those most likely to donate..... Absolute madness

fannyannie · 21/06/2007 15:39

I can't because I've had sex with people (well persons as there were one or two before DH came on the scene ) from a country where HIV/AIDS is prevelent.....even 3 negative HIV tests (during the booking in bloods for each pg) don't change that.

Rubyslippers · 21/06/2007 15:41

am doing it on 1 august locally
used to give blood ages ago until a fainting incident
then on meds for ages but now i have the all clear to do it again

the place i used to go gave those yummy pink wafers!

unknownrebelbang · 24/06/2007 14:42

Another one that can't anymore.

Bumping for those that can.

TranquilaManana · 24/06/2007 14:44

oh bugger i keep forgetting and missing the mobile clinics! have done once and mean to regularly...but am v unreliable!

suzywong · 24/06/2007 14:48

I used to a quite a bitbut can't now as no one who has lived in the UK for more than 12 months between late 80s to 90s can give blood in Australia.

And I've had a blood transfusion

well done for starting the thread though

WigWamBam · 24/06/2007 15:01

I'm another ex-regular donor who can't give anymore - I had a blood transfusion when I had dd, and I also take thyroxine, which I was surprised to find is a banned substance for blood donors.

suzywong · 24/06/2007 15:45

oooo is it really WWB? That's a shame

After my first em Caesar with ds1 I churlishly refused a transfusion. On his rounds thenext morning the consultant patted my leg and told me I was quite right as one really had no idea at all what could have been in it . No time for arguements with ds2 as I lost 1.5l on the operating table.

I 'm such a bleeder.

Tutter · 24/06/2007 15:47

god i really must

cannot right now (pg) but will commit to doing it asap

(can you do it while bfing?)

BreeVanDerCamp · 24/06/2007 15:48

I can't.

Katymac · 24/06/2007 15:50

They won't have mine either

As they don't know what causes ME they can't screen for it so they don't want mine - I used to give regularily

I had 3 pints of blood when I had the ectopic - but that wasn't really by choice

DH can't because of all his asthma medications

SO we are quite useless really

whoops · 24/06/2007 15:50

I went to give blood a couple of weeks ago but my iron levels were too low
Hate it when I come away not being able to donate
So Bump for others to see

suzywong · 24/06/2007 15:50

nope, you cant do it while BF

BreeVanDerCamp · 24/06/2007 15:51

Wongster you are needed on a thread.

BreeVanDerCamp · 24/06/2007 15:52

chevre · 24/06/2007 15:52

i am just too feeble, i pass out every time i try. if anyone has any tips on how not to be feeble i would appreciate it.

PandaG · 24/06/2007 15:59

I can't either, had transfusion after my m/c. Am sad that I cannot give blood, I used to before the transfusion and would like to be able to now.

wishingfourgotone · 24/06/2007 16:00

well done, i used to give blood before i had dd then iv recently had tattoo so its been bout two years so i last donated
Im A rhesus neg so i should do it more often!

PersonalClown · 24/06/2007 16:15

Can't do it as I've just had another tattoo done so remind me in a year. (yep, I'll still be here!)

Skribble · 24/06/2007 23:39

I keep trying to but the hours of the donation bus are so limited I haven't been able to manage the last couple of times, I have given up one job so should be able to mangage the next rotation.

mummypigoink · 24/06/2007 23:46

they come to my work so i get to give blood and get paid for it .

they are very keen for me to go ~ O neg blood and all that.

LynetteScavo · 24/06/2007 23:59

I'm so going to go. Ikeep saying I will, but didn't realise there were so many oportunities localy.

I see you have to be over 7lb 12 oz. (No worries there ) But it mad me think, how much lighter will I be afterwards?
