Hey, I've been in Germany for 12 years and despite speaking the language perfectly and having some friends and a job I feel out of place. This is the reason why we're thinking of moving back to the UK with our two children. I just want to check whether I am the only one feeling so awkward in a country that all in all is a good place for raising a family.
I find that Germany has better tap water and more security and dependable laws for maternity leave, child benefits and affordable nursery care. But I find that people are (not all of course! There are many lovely people!) a lot of the time very unpleasant, unnecessarily direct and the job market incredibly inflexible/linear.
Has anyone else had a similar impression or is my perspective skewed??
