Help! Lipstick on white duvet cover!!!

My DH very helpfully took my makeup bag upstairs (tidying) and left it on our bed. DS2 then found his way into it and mashed a lipstick into the white duvet cover. I took it straight away and washed it at 60 thinking it would come out and it hasn't. I'm about to go and get some Oxy clean or Vanish but before I do I thought I had better ask if anyone has any other suggestions.

I know I should of asked first before I put it in the machine, I just hope it's not ruined.

Going out in a minute, no ideas then, Oxyclean or something probably the best option???

Make up remover/cleanser? Or soak it with washing up liquid.

I think the main problem was to wash it at 60 as hot water fixes the stains. But it may still go if you leave it in the sun for day, now hope where you live is sunnier than where I live, I use to laugh when my mother gave me that advise, but a single sunny morning did the trick.

I think it would be the grease in it that is making it hard to shift so try rubbing a paste of fairy liquid and washing powder and leaving for a while.

There is something called elbow grease that gets most greasy stains out but bouhgt it at our local cheapy shop - would not do without it though!!

A light spray with Mr muscle with bleach if all else fails before sticking in the wash on its own.

Oh no, so I did the wrong thing washing it at 60 then! I went out to the local shops but all they could offer was Vanish spray which I had in the cupboard anyway (just didn't rate it highly, thought the powder in the tub seemed to work better). I have sprayed the Vanish on and hopefully it will shift it a bit.

Never heard of Elbow Grease Twinkie but will look out for it for future incidents.

We are in Scotland so the chances of sun are slim but you never know, it is raining at the moment.

Thanks for all the advice.

Demented is it completely white?

If so then you could try one of the whitening washing machine sachets (you know the kind you use for whitening net curtains - well not that I have net curtains but YKWIM)

If that doesn't work then miltons fluid usually works. Just work some in around the stain (neat) and then once stain is starting to lift shove in the washing machine with another capful or 2 of miltons.

Hoep you get it sorted out!

Quick update. I left the Vanish spray on it for about two hours (I think this is far longer than you are supposed to). Put it in another 60 wash, hung it out this morning and it is now back in all dry and ready to be ironed. The lipstick has gone!

Thanks to all of you for your great advice which I will store away and use next time.
