Help me determine the worth of my shed of a car

I have just paid out £425 in order that my Peugeot 306 pass its' MOT. Had to have the Catalytic Convertor replaced.

I think the time has come to sell it before it depreciates so much that I am left with no money for the next vehicle.

So, people in the know, what value does a Peugeot 306, LX, metallic blue and with children's names scratched into the paintwork and jelly ingrained on the seats (don't ask, nursery some years ago thought it was a good idea to send the jelly the children made home in little pots) 2000 reg, have?

I've checked out Ebay and Parkers guide so have a rough idea in theory but I want to know more practically iyswim.

southeastastra · 14/06/2007 20:31

check out autotrader and ebay

(been there alot lately, looking for new car)

bookwormmum · 14/06/2007 20:32

Less than 1k if my car value is anything to go by and my car is younger than yours.

LaDiDaDi · 14/06/2007 20:32

How many doors?

Special edition?

2000 reg but letter or 05?

nomdeplume · 14/06/2007 20:33

W reg ?

newlifenewname · 14/06/2007 21:09

It is 5 door and W reg indeed.

Miles 81 000

It will probably be okay after a valet and some T cut. The bits without my kids initials engraved are shiny.

No special edition but colour match trim and alloys.

Will have brand new MOT and tax.

Ok, I've looked at dp's Glass's Guide. Unfortunately dp is out and I forgot to ask you about engine size but from the guide, as far as I can work out, you are looking at about £1200-1400, maybe slightly more if bigger engine and in better condition than you describe!

That is the trade price ie what a dealer is likely to give you so less than you would hope to get in a private sale by a bout £1k.

lyrabelacqua · 14/06/2007 23:41

Go to the Autotrader site. You can put in all your details, including mileage, and it will tell you how much it's worth for private sale, part excahnge etc.

Thanks, that is interesting (and hopeful) LadiDaDi - I will probably list on Monday then. The engine size is 1.4 and I can definitely make it look a bit better. There is a scratch on the bonnet which was because a council fence fell on it and they have agreed to pay for respary on their insurance so can get the front end lookig sparkly.

Will check out autotrader thingy too. Thanks.

I've listed it and am really nervous about how much I'll get for it. Thanks for advice, here is the listing if anyone fancies offering a comment on how good/bad my ad is.

looks good and i've looked at loads of cars recently. at the small tree comment.

newlifenewname · 17/06/2007 16:38

Thanks SEA! I was surprised at how okay it looked really when photographing. I think that I have it in my head that it is crap because I've been there through the jelly and the tree bashing iyswim!
