Why the hell would you flush sanitary towels down the loo? Is she mad! Glad your toilets working again!

I am horrified to even ask this:

Please tell me you've been using a neighbour's loo?

My parents had a blockage and it took a plumber to rod it out from the inspection hatch. He was quite blase about what he extracted - a bit like a doctor, he sees it all the time! But we were astonished, mum had passed the menopause, and my sister and I had left home, years earlier (and in any case hadn't flushed them down the loos for years before after we switched to the ultra-thin types), so where had they come from? The plumber said that he thought, from his experience, that they can get stuck in the pipes for a very long time, slowly gathering muck and other debris. Bleurgh.

Am v relieved that you had a nearby loo to use. I was beginning to envisage you digging holes in the garden.

I got told this tip by one of my mum's friends after our toilet was blocked. Get a bucket of warm soapy water and from waist height pour it into the toilet bowl, the pressure will dislodge the blockage.

I was highly dubious but desperately tried it and it worked first time (she said to try a few times if first time didn't work.) I nearly wept with relief at the thought of not having to wait for a plumber!

This tip sounds rubbish but honestly it works!
