google isn't coming up trumps.

visiting parents for dad's bday on sunday and they want to go out for a meal.

need a restaurant with a play area, pref indoors but will suffice with ourdoors as my dds won't sit still between the courses. needs to be no more than 30mins from reading as will have driven 2hrs to get there

Dakotos - short drive away but not too far.

Really friendly atmosphere with yummy food and loads of stuff for kids to do (play tables near parents/colouring etc).

Kind of west of Finchampstead I guess?

Do you like Blubeckers ? There are two Blubeckers - one on the A4 and one in Eversley - there is a Blubeckers website I believe.

In Reading itself ? There are a few decent places alongside the river in the Oracle - a new Pizza Express, Nandos.

TGI Friday Caversham Road?

scatterbrain · 09/06/2007 17:28

Is there a play area at TGI's now ?

Crotchety · 09/06/2007 17:30

Don't know actually as I haven't been there for years! But their website describes themselves as child friendly and I do remember colouring and balloons.

scatterbrain · 09/06/2007 17:35

Yes - they give them colouring but they have to stay at table unless they have built a play area in the last few months. It is very very noisyt in there too - I wouldn't atke my parents there !

Crotchety · 09/06/2007 17:36

Strike that one off then!

stargate · 09/06/2007 23:06

oh forgot i posted this!

right reading centre and tgi is out - dds ran amock in tootsies so won't risk it

so will try googling blubeckers and dakotos - both are mums side of reading so look like good choices.

cheers

Dakotas isn't there anymore according to my DH. It's now called the Heron on the Lake but doesn't have a playarea. Child friendly - Wagamama at the Oracle in Reading. www.wagamama.com

stargate · 09/06/2007 23:30

shame. now would love to do wagamamas but my parents ain't going to entertain that menu - if theres not a yorkshire pudding available, i'll have me guts for garters.

Oops! I'll get my thinking cap on - I'm quite near to Reading.

Mumbojumbo · 09/06/2007 23:39

Blubeckers Twyford www.blubeckers.co.uk/blubeckers/restaurants2/twyford. html - has playarea. Ditto Eversley www.blubeckers.co.uk/blubeckers/restaurants2/tallyho. html . Not been to these venue but have been to others in the chain. Good food (poss yorkshire pud too!) and kids menu.

stargate · 09/06/2007 23:53

now have tried that one but parents saying its too expensive! - it looks middle of the road to me and with kids meals at a £5 ours aren't going much more than double.

at this rate we'll end up at the toby carvery in lower earley

What about a pub then ? Plenty of pubs around and about with gardens - down my way on the A33 twoards Basingstoke there's the Jekyll and Hyde - Sunday lunches about £9 I think - kids meals fine and they do smaller appetite portions of some adukt meals too. Good play garden.

Or a bit further down A33 is Longbridge Mill - which is Brwewer's Fayre - food is OK - has a pirate ship to play on.

Or lots of others !

stargate · 12/06/2007 21:59

thanks for those scatterbrain - been trying to rack my brain for the a33 ones - will try those next time we visit.

unfortunately meal went tits up on sunday. my paternal grandfather died on my way down to reading, so parents went to say goodbye and we all had fish and chips from mr cod when they got back
