Who was the very first poster on MUMSNET?

Just been browsing, as you do, and realised that so many people I "knew" aren't here any more. Can't even remember a lot of the names but whenever you logged on, there they were. I do remember people like Rhubarb and Custy, Twinkie, Aloha and a few others. Are we all old Mumsnetters, how long has it been going, "cos I reckon at least two/three years now and if you're an original, like me, are you still posting or have you just changed your name?!The site has changed so much (for the better), I think) but when I started logging on, there were only about ten or so threads, none of this category stuff. Ah well, feeling old and signing off. Welcome to any new people signing on tonight-this site really can help you, it makes you laugh/cry, it gives brilliant SN advice and sometimes it's just >>>>>> silly!!

Yes, I miss Lizzer (remember the all-black shop? I think that was her), Croppy, tigger, JBR and I've been wondering about bugsy (my husband asks about her, as well) and bells.

In the past year, esp Croppy with her views on the news which I always found enlightening and tigger.

bea · 23/08/2004 20:15

my first post was in november 2001... dd was just 4 months old... it's funny to look at old posts as they almost chart the rise and growth (and traumas) of parenthood!

I can just imagine Justine and acrrie making up threads and rowing about GF in various guises just tokeep itt lively Imagine every day they would log in to see if any REAL people had joined instead of them and their fake names.

That would be so funny a thread talking to yourself, you could be really argumentitive and flounce off, beg yourself to return and apoligise. One minute giving the lefty liberal view the next the flog 'em string em up view. Oh I would have agreat time rowing with myeself, I would always win You could give yourself advice, and not follow it, you could ask yourself loads of meaningful questions and spend hours trying to answer them. It would be like great therapy

I've been here on and off a while, I'll have to check when though

crunchie · 23/08/2004 23:28

WWell I've got 1392 messages archived and the first I oculd find was from 16th August 2001!! 3 years almost exactly wow.

JanH · 23/08/2004 23:32

crunchie, I have 7445, EEEEEK! Very very scary number. Can you tell I don't have a proper job?

Earliest I can find is March 01 but think I started sooner than that.

JJ, bells is still about, isn't she? Had baby on TV earlier this year?

Skara · 23/08/2004 23:49

I lurked for a loong time before plucking up the courage to write (don't know what I expected to happen to me ) and remember Lizzer and lots of the others too who we don't see any more :-(. I always wonder how people manage to break away without ever coming back - I'd be sneaking a look now and then to see what everyone was up to!

Ailsa · 24/08/2004 00:03

My first post was April 2001.

tech · 24/08/2004 00:14

The very first mumsnet talk thread was this one . The site started up in March 2000, and Talk started in April 2000. By the by, It's true the timestamps are a bit screwed up on some messages. It's on the list of things to fix. we should get it done this week some time. I'll have a look at search. I've never noticed before but archive searching by date seems not to be working. Hmm.

JanH · 24/08/2004 00:26

Thanks for that, tech - glad I stayed up late! How many of those people are really Justine, Carrie and Rachel? (I recognise emmagee and hmonty, not sure about anybody else...)

susanmt · 24/08/2004 00:57

My first post, under another name, was in Oct 2000 as far as I can see. We were then computerless for a while and I forgot all my login details, but have been posting since just after ds was born in Feb 2002 as susanmt.

Where would I be without mumsnet?

tech · 24/08/2004 01:11

I think a lot of the posters in the first few weeks were friends and family - no-one else had really heard of mumsnet then as we could never afford to advertise. The number of members started growing through word of mouth and because we left flyers in playgroups and so on around London - then it started to take on a life of its own. I remember you could keep up with pretty much all the talk postings then. "Last day" used to return about 25-30 threads. Eee them were the days (or something along those lines.) I should dig out an old backup copy and make it available on the site for nostalgia purposes some day.

Regards,
Tech

Fio2 · 24/08/2004 07:17

how do you find out how many??? mine just says over 500 messages and only goes up to a few topics, some of my replies seem so sensible!

I have been here about 2 years, I think, before thast I didnt have a computer, lol

notthecod · 24/08/2004 07:17

no! the fisrt thread was on dummies!

krocket · 24/08/2004 07:34

Fio2 · 24/08/2004 08:00

JJ, Bugzy is still posting too! She has a thread on chat about her dating experiences in the bluebell woods

clary · 24/08/2004 16:16

Oh crikey, my first post as far as I can see was Jan 2002 with toddler and baby dd and no ds2 at all...on a thread about double buggies, pros and cons of, what a surprise. I too miss Lizzer, always really liked her, remember tigermoth, pupuce, alibubbles, bells, malmomum.

pupuce · 24/08/2004 20:36

Clary... is that your original nickname ? ???
I have been on for over 4 years too - a lot at the beginning but now it's too big so I only look at childbirth threads and occasionally pregnancy and breastfeeding only because THANKS to Mumsnet (where I got the idea~!!!) I became a doula and it's become a professional interest!

pupuce · 24/08/2004 20:38

Well I am embarrassed I have posted 3828 times....

notthecod · 24/08/2004 20:45

katie thats waht I meant - blimey - the first thread is on dummies!

pupuce · 24/08/2004 20:49

I wonder which nickname is the biggest poster... just did a search and Tigermoth has over 4700.... Marina over 4100... beetroot (under this nickname - she had another one before!) over 3900..... motherinferior over 3700....but ALOHA.... over 7500!!!!! and even more frightening codswallop who has more than once changed nickname has 7100 messages under that nickname alone....

Sorry I am bored so did a bit of searching .... clearly I am not the only one without a life!!!!!

nutcracker · 24/08/2004 20:57

I joined in December 2003.

I just searched for my name on messages and it said 3749 OMG, that can't be true can it ?? I can't have posted that much in such a short space of time.

It said more than 500 found, you may wish to refine it LOL

notthecod · 24/08/2004 20:59

Pupuce
I admit
I need a life!

tech · 24/08/2004 21:00

Hi Fio2,

It says more than 500 found, but on the line above that it gives you the exact count. It just won't display more than 500 at a time.

Demented · 24/08/2004 23:18

2809 for me, just small fry really!

I think Emmagee still posts.
