Preferably in/near Dartmoor. Don't want anything fanncy, as won't be a big, white wedding, also very skint! Thanks for any advice!

might be totally ott but can you do it on the beach or on the moor? have an informal kind of picnic party with sparkly wine

spend the money on the food / booze and some waiters .. put down big picnic blankets and hire parasols / wind breakers that you decorate with flowers / lights (generator?)

or a barbecue .. again just spend the money on serving staff?

Yes, that's a really good idea, get everyone to bring a picnic blanket! Is it legal to do that?

on the moor, I mean, can you play music etc do you think?

well its common land isn't it .. I assume that if a group of people just happened to arrange to meet there and tidied up after themselves then who's going to say anything?

although you might prefer to check in advance but I bet that would lead you into strange bureaucratic lands of red tape and jobsworths ..

another cheaper option is a village hall. You pay for the hire of the hall and then can either cater tourselves (very cheap as you can shop cheapy and go on a booze cruise) or pay for caterers

only problem with moor or beach is what would you do if it rains? You need an inside place just in case. How many people are you thining of?

an event on darmoor .. sounds awfully official
