Can anyone reccommend a cheap hotel near the south bank centre in London please?

I've done lots of searches but only seem to be coming up with either rooms that are at least £100 or shared hostel type places. Is it possible to find a hotel room for one for around £50 or less in this area?

There are some travelodge type places near London Bridge/ Tate Modern, which is just along the river. Try searching with that?

And there is a pub opposite Waterloo Station which has rooms but I can't remember it's name I'm afraid. Not entirely sure I would stay there myself... or if you have links to the armed forces the Union Jack club there is quite economical.

Thank you for your replies. Unfortunately I'm getting nowhere in my search for an affordable room within walking distance to the south bank centre. The county hall looks nice, but rooms are from £99 per person, and I really can't spend more that £50. Travelodge and premier inn rooms are starting at £95 each. Any other suggestions please, before I have to give-in? Alternatively a room within walking distance to st pancras train station would be ok.

University of Westminster accommodation - depends when you are going - worth a try maybe, but find out if they are going to refurbish the place at the time

Try this one - very close indeed...

schnapps, I live very near the South Bank and unfortunately I think it'll be very difficult to find anything under £100 in the area. Prices have shot up in the last couple of years. There is a Premier Inn along the river which is a brilliant location and used to be the cheapest around with rooms from £49 but they've put their minimum price up to £92 now. The link YohoAhoy recommended is a really good one, depending on when you need it - it's uni accommodation which is, of course, available during the holidays and is in a fantastic location, next door to Tate Modern.

Any other cheaper hotels I can think of are further out and a bit dodgy. I've often found places below standard rates by using Lastminute.com or Laterooms.com so maybe that's an option? Or, you can always come and stay with me!

Thanks everyone for your help. The uni accommodation looks like a great cheap deal, and something I didn't even know you could rent, so it's def something I'll remember for the future. It's next week that I'll be in London though, so not the right dates. Anyway, I've decided it will just be much eaier and cheaper to get a coach there and back on the same day (thanks for your offer mumemma, if I hadn't just booked my tickets, I'd check to see if you were serious ) It's a bit of a pain though, more than 6 hours travelling, for a 2 and and half hour meeting in the evening. But, nevermind, it is very last minute.
