is anyone here a decorator or at least sleeping with one? I need help with my staircase

am painting faffy wooden staircase with many spindles

the problem I have is that some of the spindles from the ground floor 'back onto' the first floor and I cannot get the brush behind the back of them to paint them

it is about 1.5cm gap - paint pads won't fit, and it's the wrong angle for a brush, can't do it

I was wondering about putting some paint on a cloth and pulling it backwards and forwards (kind of like you dry the back of your neck with a towel IYSWIM?) - the finish doesn't have to be great because you don't really look at it but it does have to be painted because if you look up the staircase from the bottom you can see that it's wood coloured and not white

or is there some clever way of doing this (that doesn't involve taking the spindles out)?

My poor visualisaton skills mean I can't quite picture the staircase but I suspect the professional solution is to put a ladder / scaffold up from that point on the ground floor where you can see them and get at them that way.

Mrs B unless it is a Borrower on a tiny ladder stolen from the Playmobil house, that's not going to work.

I do need a ladder for the other bits though but am currently locked in resentful deadlock over dh with this about who should go up the damn thing

OOH we have exactly the same problem. Looking up now, you can see the dark wood showing where you cant reach with the brush!

Bet those long lost sock pairs turn up sometime next week! - this is what would happen to me
