Why does the letting agent want to know who supplies our electricity?

Not that I have a problem with it, just wondering why they want/need to know who our supplier is. I've rented lots of houses and I've never been asked this before.

because they may be after the commission from switching you to a certa in firm. dont tell them,if you pay the bill it is your business and your choice.

I'm a landlord and stop the agent doing this.

As a landlord I was asked this when signing up to letting agency. It may be to enable smooth handover at end of tenancy?

nah. it is to grab them for this supplier. finding out who supplies a property takes moments so there is no excuse .

I moved into a new property recently, the letting agents asked who we were with them so we told them and they gave all our details to a different provider anyway as they got a £20 commission from it. Now lumped with £100s of bills all now in my name as the letting agents gave it to them! Argh.
