my ds is eleven months old and im looking for a play group or club where i can take him to be around other children and learn to play with others as he is very shy of strangers dont matter how young they are we take him to beechwood park which he aint fussed on and he dont like the children in our area that much (nor do i at times)because they keep trying to run him over with there bikes and stuff
so if anyone has any ideas i would realy apreciate it alot and i dont mind paying small fee's

mtj, I used to go to a parent and toddler group in Duckpool Road church (Thursday, 1:30 - 3:00) - just off Caerleon Road. As far as I know, they're still there, and it was really friendly - toys and games and singing for the children, coffee and chat for the parents (mostly mums). I should think it won't be on again until September, though.
Also, there used to be one in St Julian's Methodist Church (Tuesday afternoons, I think) - again, probably not until September.
Also, there's one advertised in Beechwood Presbyterian Church - opposite Beechwood Park gates on Chepstow Road. It's Tuesday mornings, 9:30 - 11:30 - again, probably not until the holidays are over. I never went to that one, so can't tell you what it's like.
Hope that's helpful - I'll get my thinking cap on for more suggestions.

Hey Mummytojames. I'm in Cardiff with a baby about the same age and there is quite a lot going on here as I'm sure you know-I can let you know about good playgroups near the no 30 bus route if you want. We lived in Newport for a bit and it did always seem that everything happened in Cardiff.

I found that Cylch Ti a Fi (Welsh playgroups) are generally very well run. You don't have to speak Welsh-a lot of the parents don't. A lot of the libraries also do baby rhyme time in Cardiff-probably they do in Newport too.

We also like the Steiner group in Splott. It is well structured with a lot of songs etc for the kids.

Good luck

mummytojames - I take DD to Jo Jingles in Newport (its a music group for babies from about 12 months).

Have a look at their website - it should have the new timetable on it.

Last year we attended the group at Ty Du community centre in Rogerstone, but from Sept we will be going to the one in Rhiwderin (by Bassaleg).

Also, they have softplay in Newport Leisure Centre (as well as swimming).

I am taking DD to the Gym Tots club at Eastern Leisure Centre (off Newport Road) on a Thursday from Sept too.

x
