It's a couple of paragraphs here

Could you also let me know what "pensione" means. Is is similar to a ward or district in the UK?

Many thanks

The contiguous building instead was acquired from the Professor Gardini-Brugnoli of Ferrara that to the end of the century left it the Combined hospitals in inheritance of Bologna; for some year it was taken in rent from sanmarcellino the Gaetano Orsatti that before transformed it in Hotel Orsatti (1886), then in Hotel Pyramids (1905); in 1914 Peter Petrucci, grandfather of puts into effect them owner, made the compromise for the purchase that, because of the war, was ratified alone in 1918; from then, and it he is still, divenne hotel Queen. Many famous personages have soggiornato in the premises restructure you of this ancient villa: the writer, etnologo, orientalista and great Gloomy traveller Maraini, great friend of the mourning Saverio Zanni; Curzio Malaparte, outlandish writer, "of great taste, from the paradoxical gestures and bizzarri as the from Tuscany cursed ones are all"; Teseo Tesei, elbano, devised and perfected the "pig", means of underwater onslaught of the Direction Italian Navy; for the sacrifice of its life, it received, in August 1940, the Medal of Gold to the Military valor; "campionissimo" the Faustus Goblets.

franca70 · 09/05/2007 21:10

pensione can mean retirement or a b&b!

Londonmamma · 09/05/2007 21:11

'Pension' in French/German means a small guest house, it could be that.

Curzio Malaparte, scrittore stravagante, ?di gran gusto, dai gesti paradossali e bizzarri come sono tutti i maledetti toscani?;
I think I'd translate:
extravagant author, "of great taste, with paradoxical and bizzare gestures like all those damned tuscans"
and perfected the "maiale" ("swine") , an underwater assault craft of the Italian Royal Navy; for the sacrifice of his life, he recieved in 1940, the Gold Medal for Military Valour:, The Superchamp Fausto Coppi

franca70 · 09/05/2007 21:45

the adjoining builing was acquired by etc etc

Mercy · 10/05/2007 09:48

Thank you everyone, that's absolutely great!

Basically I'm trying to research dh's family tree and his grandfather always claimed that one of his ancestors owned a hotel in Abetone, Pistoia. San Marcello is a village very near by so I assume 'sanmarcellino' means of or from San Marcello.
