Please would you go and find your 2 pence coins?

I was watching a programme the other day and the presenter said that if you have a 2p that says New Pence at the top instead of Two Pence then it is worth £400 as there are only four in existence.

Soooooo I went in my bag and found one straight away marked New Pence and made in 1971. Now I can't believe this can possibly be right or it is a mega-amazing coincidence.

So please would you all look in your purses and tell me if anyone else has them as New Pence as well so I can stop mentally spending that £400.

1971 was the year they came out - mega-amazing coincidence or not! But £400 sounds v cheap if there are only 4...

Found some more - 4 say NEW Pence - 1980 & 81. I can't beleive we are both in the money. Sounds like a tall story to me !

the link i've just posted corrects the mistake made in the media - sorry girls!

DH (who is a bit of a coin enthusiast) says - that new pence was printed on all 2p coins from 1971 to 1981 - a little over 3 billion coins! Since then they say two pence. However, there was an error made in 1983 where some coins said "new" instead of "two". Unfortunately these are the only ones that are worth more than 2p.

OK, mental spending has now stopped. Can't believe that information was on either on Flog It or Car Boot Challenge a couple of weeks ago.
