I've only got 3 children but drive Grand Voyager. Love it, love it, love it. Would not swap it.

lou33 · 07/05/2007 15:36

i have atm a honda shuttle, but on thurs i am getting a renault grand scenic

love my shuttle, its roomy and comfy and great to drive, but its costing too much now, so i am getting a new one from motability

i doubt i will like it as much as my old one, apart from being new, as it is a bit more squashed than the shuttle, but i will let you know

sorkycake · 07/05/2007 16:03

Is it possible to get something to fit all the kids in and get more than 25mpg? or is that just wishful thinking?

OP posts:
lou33 · 07/05/2007 16:18

think my shuttle does about 30 mpg

new one does 34.4 combined apparently

NotanOtter · 07/05/2007 16:22

Nemo2007 · 07/05/2007 16:28

I have 3 but we have just bought a zafira for the extra seats. Did look at ford galaxy but felt too much like a van for me.

slimmerjim · 07/05/2007 17:18

Volvo XC90.
4 children
Pretty good but wish it were diesel.

apeainapod · 07/05/2007 17:36

slimmerjin - how many seats do you have?

DragonFaerie · 07/05/2007 17:39

We have a Mitsubishi Spacewagon, it's fine for a young family but limited leg room for our oldest DDs now, need something bigger really but funds don't allow.

apeainapod · 07/05/2007 17:40

....and if you are using all seats - how many suitcases can you get in? Sorry for the questions...

We are in the process of looking and had decided on the Grand Voyager but now that you say you have 4 kids and the Volvo - interesting! We had also looked at the Mercedes GL - but I really don't think that I would be able to park in a normal parking space!!!!

DragonFaerie · 07/05/2007 17:41

I would have a Grand Voyager over our car if poss! No boot room for suitcases with all the seats up (well, maybe one small one)

ggglimpopo · 07/05/2007 17:42

Have 8 seater peugeot 807. Don't like it and am looking at others.

apeainapod if we're going on holiday eg down to the west country from London we flatten down one of the rearmost seats to create an L shaped boot (3 children on middle bench, one in 3rd row) which can hold a surprising amount...will look up capacity figures tomorrow if you're interested but we can fit in 2-3 large squishable suitcases (only use rigid on planes) + pushchair on top - Maclaren triumph - and maybe a coolbag of food if we stop to shop en route. We worked out our car wasn't any shorter of space than eg a Renault Grande espace, but can check tomorrow.

Mercedes GL. Yes very sleek but HUGE>
Thinking of BMW X5 with optional 3rd row next time. A bit sportier if you have to drive something big

Btw all XC90's have the extra row of seats. Very pleased with it but just fancy a change.

SNOWBall4girlz · 07/05/2007 22:51

loved my kia sedona but too many mecanical probs after 3 yrs so we got a zafira which is fine
x
always wanted a grand voyager are they worth the extra?

Twinmummyx2 · 08/05/2007 09:55

I have a Ford Galaxy until Friday then i get my new toyoya previa 8 seater!! Does anyone have/had one..are they ok?? it's a 2001 model.

My Ford Galaxy was ok...but whilst part exchanging it the garage told me the gear box is going (i thought it just needed a service !)
He said there is a problem with the model and year of mine and garages no to look out for them going. It would cost around 2 thousand to get it done!!
Mines a galaxy GLX Auto 2.3 1998, incase anybody needs to know.xx

mygirllollipop · 08/05/2007 13:43

I have 4 kids, drive a Toyota Previa (8 seats), I can't recommend it highly enough! Lots of room in the boot, lots of leg room and the middle row of seats swivel to face the back.

SJLTM · 08/05/2007 14:01

I have 5 children and have had a voyager and grand voyager. LOVED LOVED LOVED them both x x x Only downfall, a little thirsty!!
I now have a little sexy fiesta as 3 of my five drive and I couldn't justify running it. Have been looking at Zafiras though so I can fit in grandparents .

sandyballs · 08/05/2007 14:03

I don't have 4 children, only 2 but drive a Mitsubishi Grandis, 7 seater. Great car, really recommend it.

apeainapod · 09/05/2007 10:21

Slimmerjin - thank for your recommendations - after talking with DH the choice is still between the XC90 and the GV.

What do you think about the estate cars with rear seats facing backwards? I know Jermey Clarkson has said that they are actually safer than the forward facing seats but I think when all of the luggage is in the kids might get just a little bit squashed???

slimmerjim · 09/05/2007 10:27

Years ago (about9 ?) we had a Merc E class estate with 2 rear facing seats which went flat into the floor. We only had 2 toddler boys when we bought it, then dd. Boys used to love waving out the window, but yes, bags would be at their feet if for eg. we were transporting grandparents/friends too.

Does Peugeot still do that sort of seat ? I know the new E class hasn't had them for ages now.

apeainapod · 09/05/2007 10:46

Ah - the E Class was what DH thought of. Bang goes that idea - back to the original ideas then...

I have 4 weeks to decide and buy.
