Hi all

My dd is turning 6 and wants a big party!
We have said no as she always has a big one and i am very pregnant with no4, and we need to save money as we are on a tight budget for the time being (no holiday this year - boo!!!!!)

So she is having a 'garden party'. We have a reasonable sized patio garden and i have visions of 6 little girls sitting at the table making crafty things to take home instead of party bags and games!
I, however am quite rubbish at this sort of thing so does anyone have any ideas???

So far i have thought of

  • decorating the cakes
  • paint a t-shirt (hmm - a bit messy)
  • planting something to take home (what?)

if anyone has any ideas my dd and i would be very grateful!!!

Do you know about Baker Ross? They have all sorts of wonderful ideas. You can get little bags to decorate, pencil cases, that sort of thing, and it's not expensive. You could plant cress in egg cups maybe (they sell them too!) and draw a face on the egg cup so the cress is its hair

My DD's 7th birthday party in February was at home and we decorated heart shaped biscuits (I made these beforehand but you could buy them) with white icing, writing icing and silver bals, etc.

Hama beads were a great success and easy to do if you have them about anyway.

We also 'painted' mugs with porcelain pens. I bought the mugs from IKEA for about 20p each. The pens were more expensive - about £20 for 2 packs from Baker Ross, but they will last a long time.

We also had a Disney music quiz. I made up a sheet with pictures from about 10 Disney films and played about 30 seconds of a song from each film. They had to write the number beside the picture. DH supervised this and it allowed me to cook the pizza!

Food, pass the parcel and pinata killed the rest of the 2 hours.

Oh and the year before, we decorated pencil cases - clear plastic ones from Asda for about 30p each, with glass pens, again from Baker Ross.

Just had one today (I'm knackered)

hired a bouncy castle .. £45 for 10.30 till 6pm

worth every penny

(also had decorating gingerbread and food) but that's about it

wouldn't paint a t-shirt
planting .. do cress (actually bakerross do little egg-cups you can decorate and cress-kits)
