Does this sound dodgey to you? I've just received a message from 'paypal' saying someone has tried to get into my account & to provide credit card details?

Does this sound dodgey?

They said someone from a different IP address has tried to log into my account and to verify my details, but they want me to type in my full details, name addresss, tel no, bank details, credit card details, everything!

Should I?

NO!!

go about entering their site the usual way to investigate, NOT by the e-mail!

better to be safe than sorry ..

hercules1 · 03/05/2007 12:04

No, of course not.

Boco · 03/05/2007 12:04

NO!!!

I had this, it's a scam, copy it and send it to paypals fraud dept. go to the paypal website, not by clicking the link as that's a fake link - you should be able to find email address for scams / fraud. Send them the email and ask.

I had something similar which was a scam and reported it. there's lots of this type of badness going round

SherlockLGJ · 03/05/2007 12:06

Scam

CuriousSquid · 03/05/2007 12:06

Hillls · 03/05/2007 12:07

Really do get onto it Hillls. Someone set up false paypal account in my name and with my credit card details recently - fraud of this type is very common.

Hillls · 03/05/2007 12:39

Thanks for your quick responses, bozza I have contacted paypal and they have confirmed it is a fraudulent email I have changed my password and nothing has gone out of my account but am still worried.

spoof mail ebay call it you are meant to forward it to them and they deal with it

bozza · 03/05/2007 12:41

I think you will probably be alright. Good job you got straight onto it though. Mine was actually a slightly different scenario, whereby somebody had got my credit card details from a website I had used which mustn't have been secure. So the first we knew was when we got charges from paypal on our credit card statement.
