Nay, hate laminate

glassslipper · 02/05/2007 08:59

i like laminate but imagine it might be a bit noisy upstairs in a kids room

LilyLoo · 02/05/2007 08:59

easy to keep clean
not very warm to sit and play on

ds1 is asthmatic so we put laminate in his room when he was 8 (he's now 13). he loves it, but did complain about putting his feet on the cold floor so I bought 3 small colourful circular rugs from Ikea so he has 'stepping stones to get across to the nice warm landing carpet!

ds2 has a carpeted bedroom. I did think it might have been better to give him laminate when he projectile vomited all over it at 2am on Christmas morning!

SofiaAmes · 02/05/2007 09:31

Oh so practical!!! And use area rugs (washable ones) for them to sit and play on.

fortyplus · 02/05/2007 09:34

Yes - the 3 circular rugs I bought have been used for all sorts of games on the laminate 'sea'

franca70 · 02/05/2007 09:45

yes yes yes (sorry I'm conducting a personal battle against carpet)

inanidealworld · 02/05/2007 09:49

Yes definitely-easy to keep clean & hygienic and much better surface for toy cars.

We have Karndean, which is like Amtico but cheaper. It comes in strips that are glued individually to the floor. I think it needs doing professionally as the floors need levelling and screed-ed. No marks or scratches and quiet (which was our main consideration).

In our 'Family Room' we have wood laminate - much nicer than the normal stuff. Wood laminate has a sealed surface that can be re-sanded. If something gets dropped on it you get a dent, just like a normal wood floor, unlike cheaper plastic laminates, which can chip. On the other hand, because the're so cheap it's not expensive to replace them.

Naah, go for carpets. Much more cosy, and quieter. I've got laminate in the living room cos have 2 dogs, so it's easier to keep clean..but even with a large rug on the floor, I still HATE it. Give me carpets anyday.
I'm def a carpet lover

We love laminate in the kids rooms, keeps alot cleaner, no dust allergies, we bought the cheapest 2 years ago, no scratches or chips, and when they are sick it just wipes up, we feel alot cleaner, just spray and wipe off or if your're rich laminate floor wipes!

Good luck and enjoy!
