I could cry looking at my kids asleep

Have just been up to check on them. (OK, I admit I have had a glass of Pinot Grigio since I put them to bed). DD1, 3 yrs old, is sprawled across her bed with covers kicked off, and clutching her beloved doggy toy like she will never let him go. DD2, 4 mths, is on her back with arms spread wide, sucking occasionally, a la Maggie Simpson, on her dummy. They both look so blissful and innocent, I could cry. I feel like all is right with the world.

Anyone else ever feel like this?? (as if I need to ask!)

Definitely feel like that. Never go into dd at night, too scared of waking her up but when I go in the morning and she's still asleep its the sweetest thing ever. Recently got a camera phone and have already lost count of the times I've taken pics of her asleep in the morning.

Wallace · 30/07/2004 21:02

I look at them and wish I could just hold that moment and never let it go...

Piffleoffagus · 30/07/2004 21:04

I know what you mean.... Even smelly ds aged 10 with his first pubic hairs (so he proudly told me today bless) still looks like Gods only angel asleep
And dd, I find it hard no to pick her up, I adore her asleep she looks so at peace and restful...
My dd sucks her thumb too, so adorable...

WideWebWitch · 30/07/2004 21:20

Yeah amysoph, I know exactly what you mean about all being right with the world when we're all happy, under one roof and they're sleeping.

prufrock · 30/07/2004 21:27

Oh yes. Although I would add to www's "all being right with the world when we're all happy, under one roof and they're sleeping" - "and there's champagne in my glass"

lavender1 · 30/07/2004 21:31

Oh God yes, they are 9 and 7 1/2 but I still look at them in bed and feel very emotional and feel like I'm the luckiest person alive for having 2 beautiful and healthy children, husband and feel like I must have done something good in a previous life for this life now (they are my life and nothing compared to them

wobblyknicks · 30/07/2004 21:32

There's also another amazing side to kids being asleep - the sheer fact that they AREN'T awake!!!

amysoph · 30/07/2004 21:32

Or just plain wine, not too fussy!!

Yeah - but I'm out of wine so had to raid the champagne

suzywong · 30/07/2004 22:02

Blub!
To all of these posts
I was horrid shouty mummy to my ds1 today when he ran off out of the gates of the paddling pool on Hampstead Heath and was cross with him again a bit later.
I am sorely tempted to go in and cuddle him and pray that I haven't f'ed him up with my schizo ways

marthamoo · 30/07/2004 22:23

Oh Lord, me too (especially today - don't ask)

spacemonkey · 30/07/2004 22:30

Yep. Don't ask me either

Angeliz · 30/07/2004 22:34

sniff- me too!
Pregnancy hormones making me into bitch and i just found myself snapping at dd today. She went to the beach with her daddy so i could have a good cry

Cuddled up in bed with her tonight and just watched her snoring, she even snores in a cute voice!!!

alexsmum · 30/07/2004 23:46

Myermay,I get that totally! I look at my boys and think I can't believe i made them! They are so completely perfect, and they came out of me and dh loving each other.I could cry!!
I also love it when people admire my kids in public, I feel so proud! My baby is (without being biased!) a classically cute baby..blonde curls, big blue eyes, huge smile and we are always being stopped by people cooing over him..and it makes me glow! I'm like " yeah and I made him!!"(sorry to digress)

mit · 31/07/2004 01:28

I've just put dd down to bed (It's 7:20 here if you were wondering....!) - she sleeps like an angel. She rolls onto her front and rests her cheek on the sheet and cuddles her bunny rabbit toy....so unbelievably cute. Dh and I go in every night to check on her before we go to sleep and we proudly stare at her for a couple of minutes....the sleep of the innocent is something to behold.

Ds has just gone down for his nap. It's been a crappy morning already (don't ask) and yet watching him lying there, arms flung wide, snuffling and sighing, I thought 'If I just sat here and watched him sleep, I know I'd feel better.' He radiates peace and innocence when he sleeps. It's the most beautiful thing.

happymummy1 · 31/07/2004 10:12

Know exactly what you all mean,my beautiful boy of nearly 4 months is having his little nap.We did'nt have a very good night but when i watch him it makes anything and everything else so much less important.
He looks soooo beautiful!

Seabird · 31/07/2004 10:37

oh I so know what you all mean. Found out this week I'm pg and mostly I can't imagine loving another one like I love DD, but the other evening when I peeked in on her sleeping I thought "oh my god, I'm going to have another one that I feel all this for" and I felt totally awestruck & blissed out

cuppy · 31/07/2004 12:02

Definately feel the same. Its like I look at my baby with new eyes everyday - she is just so yummy and when i think about how much I love her the tears just start to roll. She is my very best thing ever!!!!
