Anybody here from Cork or thereabouts and know The Marquee?

My lovely OH has got me the best birthday prezzie ever!

He's taking me to Cork in June to see Duran Duran (yep, I'm that old, and that sad!)!!!

Only thing is, flight gets in at 5.25pm, the lady in the b&b I booked said 'oh, we'll expect you for 6.30 then' - and the concert starts at 7pm - what I'm hoping someone will be able to reassure me (as I'm sure it'll be the same as in the UK) is that although it says a 7pm start, the actual band won't get onstage til 9ish??

It's at a place called The Marquee, which doesn't appear to be an actual venue, more of a festival ("Live at the Marquee") in the docks... so would anyone who's been there before know if it will start at 7pm or if we have a chance to sit down with a cup of tea in the B&B before heading out?

Ooooh, I'm dead excited!!!

I'll ask my boss - he was there last year i think. (I live in Cork!)

sounds about right, went to Moby a few years back at the marqee and it started well after the start time.

does it say if there's a warm up act?

(where in cork stleger? lived in douglas for 10 years!)

Thanks for replying so quickly, thought I might have to bump this one a bit!

PT, it doesn't say that there's any support act, just that it's part of a month of so of events - "Live at the Marquee has firmly established itself as a major festival on the international music festival map" it says on the website...

Cheers for that, stleger - never been further south than Bray, I'm really looking forward to it!

hmmm..... i'd still be pretty sure it's a yes but i could ask a friend who still lives down there and see if she went to any of them last year and she might know.

Lovecat · 01/05/2007 22:07

the OH thinks he's being a brave little soldier enduring a whole night of Duran Duran for me, if I asked him to go to a Jazz festival, it'd be next stop divorce courts...

He can't remember, eejit! (I'm in Carrigaline, between Douglas and the sea!). Look, go to Rollercoaster.ie and ask, there are a few Cork people there.

Hi Pink Tulips - I used to live in Douglas in 1999, just for 6 months. I worked at the Touchdown Tavern by the roundabout!
