Dd wants to work in Romanian (other?) orphange for her holidays - how to arrange?

Title says it all really - dd is 22, and wants to spend a week or two doing something useful for her holidays.

She has seen information on the internet that will arrange this for several months at a time, and it all involves paying lots of money to do it, neither of which she wants to do.

Is it possible to arrange to do this independently - if so, anyone know how to do this?

Can you contact a reputable charity that works out there - something like Hope & Homes for Children and see if they could help? A smaller charity would probably be more grateful of a spare pair of hands than a bigger one.

Moldova probably more in need of help than Romania these days, but I can't remember any charities active out there (left Romania in 2001).

Dd doesn't mind which country she'd go to, is happy to pay her own travel costs and to kip on a floor!

She's been looking on the internet, but just doesn't know which people are the reputable ones.

I'll get her to check out the charity you've suggested. Do you know any more?

i've changed my name (if you hadn't realised) but i'll email you with a couple of options - can't say they can help but might be useful local contacts to find something.

I went with this charity many many years ago, I raised my own fare etc and the other helpers out there sorted us out with accommodation with a local family. I stayed with a family for a while, it only cost 10 dollars per week (their was a sub economy of us dollars) which doubled the family income. Later on I moved into an apartment with another helper. It was quite harrowing at times but great fun working with the group. Have to say we all questioned the ethics of the charity a bit but this was a long time ago and at least it allowed me to get out there and do something. There was another charity working at the same orphanage but I think you had to pay quite a bit to go with them. It was at a place called Siret in the North.
I think the other charity was something to do with Challenge Anneka.

Got it the other charity was Romanian Challenge . Not sure if you can still go with them but this is their website.

I'm a unuiversity student and would also be interested in something like this if anyone knows of any other charities.
